       Cars are a convenient transportation, but they also cause serious problems. They are responsible for a good part of air pollution in big cities. All the time, they are pumping huge amounts of waste gases into the atmosphere. These gases, in turn, cause disease and even death. Therefore, it is urgent that the problems be solved.
       One possible solution is to design and develop clean cars and clean fuels. In many universities and sightseeing spots, buses are driven by electricity. In Beijing some of the buses begin to run on natural gas, which does not give off as much carbon dioxide as the petrol.
       Another solution is to improve public transportation systems so that the service can be more efficient and more available. If public transportation cost much less and is also convenient, most people will not use private cars. Thus the total number of cars and the air pollution they bring to big cities will be reduced greatly.
       On the whole, the elimination of air pollution needs the co-efforts from the government and the public. With the help of science and technology, this problem will be solved soon.
